Welcome to “Ebony JP”
Justice of the Peace Services, Connecticut
Greetings to you!
My name is Roberta Gill-Brooks, but everyone calls me "Bobi"
My journey to becoming a JP actually occurred by luck and timing! I have always had a love for everything related to weddings—serving as a coordinator or day-of coordinator for family members and friends over the years. When an unanticipated break in my career occurred, I inquired on what was required to become a JP, and learned at the 11th hour that there was a vacancy in my area. I immediately submitted my resume and letter outlining my desire to become a JP, and the qualities that I believed I possess that would make me great for the role. Fortune smiled upon me, and I was appointed in January of 2018 in my hometown of Branford CT. At the very moment I completed my very first ceremony, I quickly recognized that the universe had a very unique plan for me, as I fell in love with the act of officiating marriage ceremonies! Even though I was a nervous wreck, trying to carefully enunciate every word, and desperately fighting back my own tears, the experience left me enthralled and fulfilled!
This whole process has been a learning experience from the start, but I can honestly say I am very happy to be where I am today.
Why choose “EBONY JP”?
There are hundreds of wedding officiants on the internet that you can choose from. How do you choose? Why should you choose “EBONY JP”? I believe it comes down to fit and chemistry.
If you are looking for a Justice of the Peace in Connecticut who is personable, passionate, approaches her work with creativity, intention, care, humor, and the desire to nurture honesty, boldness and acts of love, then you have found in me exactly what you are looking for!
Marriage is a substantial rite of passage. I am more than aware that planning a wedding can be intense. That said, ceremonies can and should be fun, beautiful, and inspiring. They also present an opportunity for me to tell your story, from where you have come, to where you are going and to celebrate you. The ceremony culminates and kicks off hopes, dreams, desires, those expressed and under the surface. The ritual of a wedding allows you to communicate all this to one another, to your community, yourself, and perhaps the Sacred, and to ask for strength to live into your vows. I write original ceremonies for my couples, as there is no question in my mind that, as each couple is unique, the words that they exchange when joining in marriage should be meaningful, relevant, and feel true and right for each couple I have the honor of marrying—It is just too important a ceremony to be anything else.
